Freedom!!

Well, it’s over. All is finally complete and I am now free from university, the degree has been completed! Horray! Don’t really know what to do now, I’ve only had like one day since I finished so hasn’t really sunk in yet, but yup, it really is done and I really am now a graduate!

I am now beginning my hunt for a job, I’m thinking that sales or marketing could be where I want to go. I reckon it could be quite rewarding and I’ve always been rather good at bullying sales people into giving me money off and whatever so I’m pretty confident I’d be good the other side of the table. I’ve got a few possible jobs I’m looking at so fingers crossed that goes well.

The obvious big thing next is of course the wedding! Which is all rather exciting, we’ve sent all the invites now and we’re getting lots of responses back and we’ve even had a few gifts which is nice. We went to IKEA a few weeks back and bought loads of kitchen type things too which was fun, and we looked at beds and furniture and stuff. It feels much more real now and oh so very soon, it’s only 95 days!

So yes, university over, life is about to begin… I’ll keep you posted, hehe.

Big bad world!

It’s official, I am free! Free at last of the world of university (barring one little exam). I have handed in my last essay, no more lectures, just a single 1 hour exam on May 19th. So with all my spare time I thought I’d write a blog at long last!

So, what’s happened since my last post? Well, apart from finishing university, I have laid a new floor in the hall (This morning, haha), had fun travelling around with servers and stuff for the company oh, and got engaged, hehe.

I am actually pretty late on the engagement news, I asked Naomi to marry me on her birthday on the 10th April, but just never got around to posting anything about it, so yeah… engaged! :)

I do now feel very old though, finished university, looking for a job and getting married… crazy stuff! You can get all the gory details on Naomi’s blog, there’s no point me just repeating it all!

So, that’s my news for anyone who hasn’t been told in person and isn’t on Facebook. I still don’t really know who reads this blog so I have no idea who I’m telling, ah well.

Anyway, I best get off to work at the hell hole that is the slightly up-market, but not very up-market, but better than Tesco’s supermarket that I work in (I don’t want to post the name for fear of getting in trouble, haha). Joy upon joys.

Ciao for now!

The New Site

Ok! So whilst I’m on a roll at this early hour of the morning I thought I would follow up my previous blog and subsequent asside to tell you about the new site!

Let me start by just saying that I am very sorry I deleted it all again, I didn’t meant too this time. I’m going to try very hard not to do it again.

Also, this is now using Wordpress 2.5 and for some reason everything is broken, I think it’s because I’m using the K2 theme which is all very cool but also all very broken. So, give it time until it becomes compatible with this version of Wordpress.

Now then, onto the actual information. Well… nothing really. A few changes of note,

Firstly, you don’t need to register to post comments. It’s possible isn’t working at the moment because, well… I dunno. But it may or may not actually let you post comments, I have no idea, give it a shot. I reckon it is something to do with K2 again.

Secondly, you’ll notice that the there are little mini posts called assides that have a slightly different look to the main posts to the blog. These are sort of like extended status updates like those you’d find on Facebook. They are just a little thought or idea I had that I wanted to share. Rather than a full blown blog update. They are new, and I like them. I’m trying to get it to work with my phone so I can give little updates wherever I may be. But my phone is pants and can’t send emails anyone is able to read… so yeah. I’m working on that one too!

That’s it, haha. New site, the only real visible change is the header image which me and Ed sorted the other day. It is of the London Eye (if you hadn’t guessed) and is rather pretty indeed. I hope you like it!

That’s it for now, three posts in one night is impressive. I sleep now.

The future of pancakes.

Today I completed my dissertation. Well, technically yesterday as it is now 01:24am and so technically it’s tomorrow, well… today. You get what I mean. The key point is that I finished the dissertation. Now yes I do still have three essays and an exam to do, but it feels strangely like the end at the moment. The dissertation is such an important part of a degree that to complete it and hand it in (later today), well that’s an important moment I believe, it signifies the end of what has been now almost sixteen years of education.

This end of what I have known well that brings about new concerns. I never again have to worry about homework, or trying to think of new reasons why I shouldn’t go to school or more recently, new reasons why I shouldn’t go to a lecture. No, now I need to worry about new things, things like bills, and taxes, and you know… the future.

So, what is the future going to hold? Well… who knows.

I want this blog to be one of my attempts at motivating, putting things in perspective, making people feel at ease. I am fairly sure in my mind that I am not alone, that you or at least some people you know are worried, unsure and uneasy about what may lay ahead in the very near future. But I am also fairly sure that there is only a very limited ability for a blog to put people at ease.

Have a read of this statement:

I want to live! I mean, who in their right mind in a choice between pancakes and living chooses pancakes?

There is a quote for you, it’s from the film Stranger than Fiction and raises that very important point, your life is whatever you make it, if you choose to you could do nothing with your life but eat pancakes. Some may not see that as a very good life, some may not like pancakes - but they key thing to remember is as follows, the response to that statement:

…if you pause to think, you’d realize that that answer is inextricably contingent upon the type of life being led… and, of course, the quality of the pancakes.

What the film is trying to say (Or at least, how I interpreted it) is that life is whatever you make it. Someone may choose to live the type of life where they eat pancakes, the key thing is that they are still living. They are making their life what they want it to be.

The same goes for us, our life is whatever we make of it.

I am uneasy about the future, I don’t know exactly what is going to happen. I don’t know if I’ll get a job (So far I have been far from successful) nor do I know where I will live. But that doesn’t mean I can’t look forward too it. I know it will work out alright in the end and I for one am very excited.

I am at a turning point, anyone who is finishing university or anyone else for that matter, is at a turning point. We are forever able to make choices, we can choose to do whatever we please with our lives and make of it as we will. At this point, at this turn in the road, the world is our oyster! Do you want to eat pancakes? Or maybe you prefer waffles? Maybe you just want a nice job, a family, a nice car, you know… traditional stuff. Either way, your life is what you decide it should be. It is as the film says, inextricably contingent upon the type of life being led.

So go out there! Do what you will with your lives and have fun!
